Jan 25 (Reuters) - Delta Air lines said on Sunday it is operating a reduced flight schedule as winter weather continues to affect several U.S. regions, while closely monitoring conditions in the Northeast and at its Atlanta hub.

Forecasters have said the upcoming winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

Delta Air Lines is sending additional staffing to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport and other southeastern hubs as winter weather forces thousands of flight cancellations across the region.

As weather forecasts predict potential winter weather to hit the Southeast in the next several days, Delta Air Lines is offering customers with existing bookings no fees for changing their travel plans.

Ahead of the upcoming winter storm expected to sweep through the much of the United States this weekend, Delta Airlines is allowing customers to change their flights, free of charge.
