2 hikers killed by falling tree on popular national forest trail
Two women were killed by a falling tree in the Olympia National Forest. According to the Kitsap Sun, Christine Mutchler, 70, and Kathy Pickard, 76, were hiking to Lena Lake with a third friend on Jan. 15 when a dead fir tree broken about ten feet up and pieces of it fell onto the trail, apparently striking the two women.
