“Battle of Alcoraz, 1096 — Moors remembered as Black.” The Battle of Alcoraz (1096) was remembered in Spanish chronicles as a victory where four Black Moorish princes fell in battle. Their memory was placed into the arms of Aragon: a red cross on white, between four Black Moor heads. This symbol is known as La Cruz de Alcoraz — long before later artworks tried to change the image of who the Moors were.
